Chinese Windrose wants to build production plants in Georgia (U.S.) and Belgium
As confirmed by CEO Wen Han, Windrose is expected to set production in Belgium, as well as in the U.S., with the State of Georgia identifies as the right place to do that. The Chinese start up claims over 6,000 pre-orders, mainly coming from major U.S.-based companies.
Wen Han is the CEO and founder of Windrose, a Chinese electric truck start-up whose first e-truck model has been traveling throughout Europe and the world in the latest months. The truck, also seen at ACT Expo, back in May, will be in Hannover for the IAA Transportation 2024, to start on September 17.
Mr Han has recently been interviewed by some major media channels, such as Reuters, telling something interesting about the next steps of the project, which has been identified as one of the competitors of the well-knowns Tesla Semi truck. Indeed, the two vehicles have something in common, even though the Windrose truck seems to be cheaper (it should cost about $250,000), ensuring a range of about 600 km. The e-truck has been recently used to test megawatt charging systems developed by BorgWarner.
Windrose may start production outside China
As Wen Han told a few months ago, his will is to set production in Belgium. Indeed, the truck has recently spent quite some time in Belgium. Also, Windrose might start producing also in the U.S., with the State of Georgia identifies as the right place to do that. According to the news reported by Reuters, Windrose has collected over 6,000 orders, most of them coming from the United States (Nike seems to be one of those global companies with HQs in the U.S.).
Windrose CEO said that he’s particularly confident about the possibility to enter the U.S. market, due to the fact that the tariffs on Chinese trucks are currently lower compared to the passenger car market. “It is in everyone’s interest to be building a truly global EV product as well as supply chain. Despite geo-political tensions, we’d like help build up an EV ecosystem in both Europe and the U.S. Belgium in Europe and Georgia in the United States are both top ports with promising business environments”, Wen Han said in an interview released to EVinfo.net.
