The Sustainable Truck of the Year awards 2025 are asseigned yearly to the commercial and industrial vehicles that stand out in the market for their sustainable footprint. The official awarding ceremony will take place on January 16. The big news this year is the introduction of a new e-Truck category dedicated to trucks with zero tailpipe emissions, joining the now traditional Van, Distribution and Tractor categories, each dedicated to a specific segment of commercial and industrial vehicles. While we wait for more details on the awards ceremony, let’s find out which vehicles are finalists in this ninth edition of the Sustainable Truck of the Year!

Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 e-Truck

The Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 hosts a brand-new category devoted to electric trucks. Four vehicles are nominated. The Lion’s first electric truck, the MAN eTGX, can be declined in different configurations in terms of wheelbases, suspension, PTOs, and batteries. The concept is highly modular, with the possibility of installing up to 6 packs for a range exceeding 600 km. And work is being done on megawatt charging.

Renault Trucks’ heavy-duty E-Tech T has what it takes to convince even skeptics. Pending further innovations planned for 2025, the T electric promises a range of about 300 km with battery capacity of up to 540 kWh and engine power of up to 660 hp.

The 6×2 Scania 45 R Electric exceeds 610 hp, provides a range of more than 350 km, and puts forward its strong bid to fulfil regional distribution activities with zero emissions. Charging power up to 375 kW.

Even more sustainable, the Volvo FH Aero Electric takes the DNA of the FH and the qualities of the Aero without compromising. Up to 6 battery packs can be installed for a maximum capacity of 540 kWh. The electric motors provide 666 hp for a range well above 300 km.

Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 Tractor

The DAF XD450 Efficiency Champion already bears its hallmark in its name: the quest for maximum efficiency starts with the use of the latest technology. Under the cab beats loudly the @Paccar MX-11 6-cylinder, 449-hp engine that is matched to @ZF’s Traxon automated transmission. State-of-the-art ADAS equipment relies also on the Event data recorder, mandatory from 2029.

At the top of the range, the Scania Super 560 R leverages the combination of a 13-liter 560-hp engine, Opticruise transmission in G33 and G25 versions, and innovative differentials. All combined with a modular-architecture chassis to make better use of the component layout. Cabin comfort is typical of Scania tractors.

Fresh record-holder of the Supertest 500 km held by Vado and Torno, the Volvo FH Aero 460 improves aerodynamics, and overall efficiency gains big time, also due to the introduction of the digital camera system instead of conventional mirrors. The engine is the glorious 460-hp Volvo D13 matched to Volvo’s I-Shift transmission.

Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 Distribution

The IVECO Eurocargo Model year 2024 in its CNG version relies on a Tector 7 engine developed by FPT Industrial that delivers up to 280 hp. The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission completes the heart of the powertrain. The cabin is enriched by the 10-inch digital cluster.

The MAN TGM 18.290 has a new ZF Powermatic automated 8-speed transmission that matches to the 290-hp MAN engine. This results in great smoothness in gear shifting and efficient acceleration. With the promise to lower fuel consumption also due to lighter components.

The Dutch DAF XB310 raises the bar on safety, comfort and efficiency. Three cabs, a wide variety of wheelbases (up to 6,900 mm), and two Paccar Px-5 and Px-7 engines with up to 310 hp are some of the key features of the ‘little one’ in the New Generation DAF.

Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 Van

The IVECO Daily Model Year 2024 hides its main innovations under the dress. Starting with the engine, which can also be powered by HVO to significantly reduce emissions. IVECO has also done a lot of work on the ADAS equipment and connectivity services, now available as standard with the Connectivity Box.

The MAN TGE Next Level also features rich ADAS equipment, which significantly increases the vehicle’s active and passive safety levels. As a result, the TGE has also been deeply revised inside to increase vehicle comfort and drivability.

Batteries with a capacity of up to 87 kWh for a range in the WLTP cycle of up to 460 kilometers. The new version of the Renault Master E-Tech electric, in addition to an increasingly modern and aggressive look, aims at making range anxiety a memory of the past, without jeopardizing payload, which is identical to that of the ICE van.
