Quantron Days 2023, here’s the brand-new QHM FCEV Aero hydrogen heavy truck
The truck will ensure a real range of up to 700 km without limiting the payload and using a standard trailer. In terms of concrete improvements of the Aero vehicle, maximum efficiency and a range improvement of 10% are ensured by the specially developed Q-ENERGY management system and around 20% aerodynamic optimization was achieved by close cooperation between the QUANTRON design and R&D team.
German electric and hydrogen truck specialist Quantron celebrated the second edition of its Quantron Days, the in-house event open to press members, investors, politicians, stakeholders and so on. This year, Sustainable Truck&Van had the opportunity to participate and see what’s going on under the Quantron roof. We’ll talk about it more into details soon. In the meantime, let’s focus our attention on the main attraction of the international event held in Augsburg, the official launch of the brand-new QHM FCEV Aero hydrogen truck, a MAN-based heavy truck (up to 44 ton, except for the Scandinavian countries) with an improved design curated by Quantron itself in order to improve aerodynamics, increase efficiency and also range.
The main attraction of Quantron Days 2023
In fact, according to Quantron, the truck (also available in its BEV version) will ensure a real range of up to 700 km without limiting the payload and using a standard trailer. In terms of concrete improvements of the Aero vehicle, maximum efficiency and a range improvement of 10% are ensured by the specially developed Q-ENERGY management system and around 20% aerodynamic optimization was achieved by close cooperation between the QUANTRON design and R&D team. As for the powertrain, the 2 x 120 KW fuel cell system is provided by Ballard Power, an investor in QUANTRON.
The truck is designed for heavy long-distance transportation and is equipped with a tank capacity of around 54 kg of hydrogen and thus achieves a range of around 700 km. The hydrogen tank is completely integrated into the frame structure within the wheelbase of 3900 mm. Standard trailers can then be used without restrictions. The QHM FCEV is also offered in a range-extended version for use in Norway with a range of up to1,500 km, with a tank capacity of up to 116 kg.
Ready to approach the North American market
In addition, Quantron will be soon participating in ACT Expo, the international trade fair on zero-emission vehicles to be held in a few days in Anhaeim, California. There, the German manufacturer will introduce its first hydrogen-powered QUANTRON US Class 8 truck with tank capacity of up to 100 kg. At Q Days, we could have a glimpse of the vehicle, as shown below.
