MAN is about to introduce its third electric truck model, the eTGL, at the incoming IAA Transportation in Hannover. The German manufacturer presented the new vehicle during an online press conference. “We want to secure that MAN will continue to meet its customers’ needs in the complete range, starting from 12 ton-GVW up to heavy-duty trucks”, said MAN Truck & Bus CEO, Alexander Vlaskamp. “The eTGL is a super-flexible vehicle, also handy for various applications. We expect a similar success compared to its bigger brothers, the eTGX and eTGS”, he added.

MAN eTGL: order books to be opened at IAA

Indeed, the eTGL will be produced in MAN’s Krakow site by the end of this year. MAN will open order books during the IAA. The Lion’s top management explained that the decision to start with a 12-ton truck is due to the fact that urban distribution in inner city operations is the most requested use case among customers who want to approach electric mobility.

In terms of technical details, MAN eTGL has got payload up to 6.6 tons, and 4,500 mm wheelbase. Body length ranges from 6,200 to 7,300 mm. Talking about the truck driveline, two battery packs are available and mounted on different sides of the frame, with a central drive unit to give power to the e-truck. The electric motor has got 210 kW power (285 hp) and 800 Nm continuous torque. The batteries of the eTGL have 160 kWh capacity, ensure range up to 235 km and can be charged in about 30 minutes with 250 kW power.

Electric mobility also means easily accessible infrastructure

Speaking of electric trucks, Vlaskamp added: “Demand is very high among our customers. We’re going into deliveries and, at the same time, working on the infrastructure side to make the most of the experience gained so far with depot charging in the bus sector, for instance”. MAN’s CEO also mentioned the recent collaboration signed with E.ON as for charging infrastructure, or the project shared with Bayern Munich to build a truck charging hub at the well-known Allianza Arena in Munich, located in a crucial crossway for logistics and transportation in Bavaria.
