Almost 150 new hydrogen refueling station opened worldwide in 2021
All over the world, 33 countries now have hydrogen stations, with Hungary and Slovenia as new additions to such list. As for Europe, Spain seems to be very active, while Germany leads the chart with 101 of the overall 228 stations located in the Old Continent. On the other hand, Asia has got the highest number of hydrogen refueling stations, with 363 locations.
142 new hydrogen refueling stations were opened worldwide in 2021. 252 additional projects are already in place (here’s a recent post of our about Everfuel planning to build new stations in Germany and Sweden). A total of 685 hydrogen refueling station are currently operating all over the world. These figures come from the 14th annual assessment of H2stations.org, an information service of Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik (LBST), in turn an associated company of TÜV SÜD and an international expert consultant for sustainable energy and mobility.

On the other hand, Asia has got the highest number of hydrogen refueling stations, with 363 locations. Japan (195), China (105) and Korea (95) are the most virtuous nations, with China outstanding the other Asian countries as for hydrogen stations used almost exclusively for the refuelling of buses or truck fleets.
The majority of the 86 hydrogen stations in North America continues to be located in California with 60 operating stations. In 2021, 11 new filling stations went into operation there.
