From February, 2025, Mitsubishi FUSO, part of Daimler Truck, will conduct a demonstration of battery second life initiative. The batteries used for the iconic eCanter electric truck will then be reutilized as energy storage system at the end of their first cycle.

There’s more to get from eCanter batteries

The project will be held in close cooperation with Connexx Systems, a Japanese company specializing in storage battery systems. The target is building an EV charger capable to reduce the load on the existing power grid when it comes to charging electric vehicles. The expansion of charging infrastructure is then supposed to be easier without the need to rely solely on the grid.

In February, the first EV charger will be installed in Kyoto to charge the city’s official EV cars. Once the batteries are retrieved from the used eCanter trucks, they will be reused for other applications within the battery second life framework outlined by the partners.
