In 2024, 213 electric trucks were registered in Italy, a full 114 more than the 99 in 2023. In percentage terms, a 114 percent increase that lifts the market share from 0.3 percent to 0.7 percent. Far, still, from the minimum threshold to speak of a truly significant figure, but analyzing the trend is important. More specifically, BEV truck registrations in the ‘low’ range, the 3.5- to 5-ton range, are growing significantly, with a percentage increase close to 270 percent (170 vs. 46 in 2023).

Electric trucks in Italy: the latest figures

This clearly proves that the urban scenario is certainly the most ready to welcome electrification. Declining, however, are registrations in the ‘middle’ segment between 5 and 16 tons, with 19 electric trucks registered compared to 23 in 2023. This reduction is also confirmed in the ‘high’ segment, the one above 16 tons, where 24 electric vehicles were registered compared to 30 in 2023, a decrease of 20 percent.

Partly because of what has been said so far, IVECO is the big voice with more than 100 registered electric trucks and a market share rising from 17 to almost 50 percent, ahead of FIAT (23 percent, almost 50 commercial vehicles over 3.5 registered), Volvo and FUSO, which has placed 13 eCanters in Italy. Volvo itself faces downsizing this year, dropping from 25 to 14 registered electric vehicles and retreating to a 6.6 percent share compared to 25 percent in 2023.

The Swedish brand maintains a strong position in the over 16-ton range, although down 41 percent compared to 2023. Behind it moves Mercedes-Benz, with 5 registered electric trucks, ahead of Renault Trucks and Scania (2) and IVECO (1).
